While the Turks and Caicos might be best known for our sparkling turquoise waters and what lies beneath their surface, there’s much to be discovered on our islands that doesn’t require venturing out into the ocean. Indeed, exploring our island by land is a must if you truly want to experience all our islands have to offer.
Whether you want to reconnect with your inner zen or kick back with a locally brewed beer, there’s always something to do. From an afternoon of horseback riding to a day of shopping in Grace Bay, you’re sure to find the perfect activity for you when you need a break from the water.
Here are some of our favorite Turks and Caicos land-based activities at The Strand.

What better way to reconnect with yourself than a guided yoga class? Tri-Island Yoga offers a variety of classes for all skill levels at their studio in Grace Bay and private one-on-one classes you can enjoy from the comfort of your villa to help you take your practice to the next level, both physically and spiritually. There is nothing quite like taking in the sights and sounds of the island while you move through your own meditative flow. Meanwhile, KYN also offers private yoga instruction as well as day retreats you can arrange at your hotel or villa.

Get a taste of Turks Head Brewery
Turks Head Brewery offers the island’s only local brewing experience. Brewed in-house, Turks Head offers several year-round brews, including a lager, amber ale and IPA, along with rotating seasonal beers. You might stop by their tasting room, open all week except for Sundays, or sign up for one of their tours. You’ll be escorted through their state-of-the-art facilities as you learn about the ins and outs and brewing beer, followed by a tasting at the bar.
Horseback Riding
For those of you looking for the ideal laid back adventure, Provo Ponies offers the kind of tour that combines the best of land and sea with horseback tours on Long Bay Beach on the south side of Providenciales. You’ll stroll along the white sands and then take your horse—matched with each rider’s capabilities—into the shallow waters of Long Bay. And don’t worry: Provo Ponies provides safe, simple instructions for even those who have never been on horseback before.
Shopping
The tourism district of Grace Bay is home to an array of shops and plazas to satisfy your shopping needs, whether you’re in search of art, jewelry, clothing or swimwear. At the Saltmills, you’ll find shops such as Anna’s Art Gallery that offer a variety of gifts and artwork by local artists. If you’re in search of high-quality clothing, home decor or swimwear, stop by the Panoply Boutique in the Shops at Grace Bay for upscale brands that specialize in sustainability. And if you work up an appetite while shopping, don’t fret—there’s no shortage of restaurants in the area to stop in for a bite to eat. Have a seat at the French sidewalk bistro Le Bouchon du Village and indulge in some mussels, or stop into Lemon2Go for a coffee and pastry.
Cheshire Hall
Tour Cheshire Hall Plantation
Built in the 1700s, Cheshire Hall was once home to an extensive cotton and sisal plantation. Although some of the buildings have deteriorated with the passage of time, much of the original construction and space remains. Your $10 admission will include a 30-minute tour and, if you choose, you can continue your personal investigations on your own as you explore the historical paths that wind their way through the beautiful local flora.
Enjoy Turks and Caicos by land
Whether you prefer to stay on land or simply need a break from the sun after a long day on the water, there’s no shortage of things to do on land in the Turks and Caicos without having to get wet. And we know that no matter what activity you choose, you’re sure to fall in love with our islands, just as we have.
